The HLTAID012 Course at Crown Institute of Business Technology equips participants with the skills to respond to first aid emergencies involving infants and children, in line with ARC guidelines and Education and Care Services National Law requirements. Key components include:

• Responding to Emergencies: Recognising and assessing emergency situations involving infants and children, ensuring safety for self and others, and seeking assistance from emergency services.
• Applying First Aid Procedures: Performing infant, child and adult CPR in line with ARC guidelines, and managing conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis, choking, bleeding, fractures, shock, and envenomation using pressure immobilisation.
• Using First Aid Equipment: Operating AEDs, adrenaline auto-injectors, and other first aid resources correctly, including age-appropriate considerations for infants and children.
• Communicating Incident Details: Reporting accurately to emergency services, parents or caregivers, and the regulatory authority where required, while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
• Reviewing the Response: Recognising the psychological impact of an incident on rescuers and children, and contributing to a review of the first aid response.

Participants will gain confidence managing a wide range of infant and child medical emergencies, practical knowledge of ARC guidelines, and the communication skills needed to respond effectively within an education and care setting.
