COVID-19 Update

INFORMATION & ADVICE ON CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus as per the World Health Organisation (WHO). Currently there is no specific treatments or vaccines for COVID-19. People at all age are at risk of being infected with the COVID-19 virus, however older people with underlying medical conditions are more likely to develop serious illness.

How COVID-19 spreads?

Human coronaviruses are spread from someone infected with COVID-19 virus to other close contacts with that person through contaminated droplets spread by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with contaminated hands, surfaces or objects as per WHO. The time between when a person is exposed to the virus and when symptoms first appear is typically 5 to 6 days, although may range from 2 to 14 days. For this reason, people who might have been in contact with a confirmed case are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Most COVID-19 cases appear to be spread from people who have symptoms. A small number of people may have been infectious before their symptoms developed.

How to stop the spread of COVID-19?

  • Stay well informed about the COVID-19 Virus, it’s causes and how it spreads.

  • Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently and not touching your face.

  • Maintain social distancing, at least 1-meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and another person.

  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

  • Stay home if you feel unwell.

  • If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

  • Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.

  • Avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from large groups of people.

  • Isolate yourself from others for 14 days from the day you retuned or arrived from overseas.
